Catalina Gonzalez
Volunteer Programs Manager

I am thrilled to join the Office of Adult Education as the Volunteer Programs Manager.

Prior to joining OAE, I provided technical assistance and teacher training to literacy programs in various countries including Colombia, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panamá and most recently, India. I have also worked for the International Division of ProLiteracy and helped translate GED materials to Spanish for the New Readers Press. In addition, I served as the Coordinator of the Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline for World Education in Boston and as Assistant Director of the University Community Collaborative of Philadelphia, were I provided technical assistance to programs interested in developing youth voice and fostering youth leadership and civic engagement opportunities. I hold an M.A in Sociology from GSU, an M.S in Human Resource Management from Temple University, a Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from INSEAD in Singapore, and a Postgraduate Specialization in Virtual Learning Environments from the Organization of American States (OAS) in Argentina.

My journey in adult education started over 30 years ago when my parents, who are educators, created a literacy organization in Colombia.  From a very young age, I started tutoring students and later trained teachers and volunteers on literacy and adult education principles.  This journey continues. I am excited to be able to contribute my skills, experience and passion for adult education and literacy in support of the 550,000 low literate adults that live in the city of Philadelphia and the many more that work daily to improve their lives through education.
