Tutor Trainer, Office of Adult Education
Jill Smith has worked as an independent tutor since 2003 and, now, is an independent contractor in the world of adult literacy. In this capacity, she is a trainer for the Office of Adult Education; a supervisor for the Project HOME Tutor Corps; a language arts instructor for Project HOME and the Urban League of Philadelphia – Connect to Work; and a consultant/instructor/facilitator for Lutheran Settlement House – Community Education and Employment Department.
Her newest role is as an academic tutor for DREAM, a non-profit agency that supports high school students living in public housing. Extensive professional development and personal study has broadened the scope of topics she offers as a trainer to include learning disabilities, white privilege, trauma-awareness, and learner-centered tutoring. Jill begins her tenure as a new board member of the Philadelphia Adult Literacy Alliance this fall.
