For immediate release: July 18, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – The Office of Adult Education (OAE), a division of the City’s Office of Workforce Development, announced today both the new and renewed myPLACE℠ Campuses for FY 2020. Residents can use myPLACE℠ Campuses to access Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED®/HiSET® Prep, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

The five campuses for FY 2020, with eight locations citywide, include:

In 2014, the Office of Adult Education launched myPLACE℠ to offer residents centralized access to education and career development services in community-based partner programs. To date, myPLACE℠ has served 26,735 adult learners. The campuses help address many of the recommendations put forth in Fueling Philadelphia’s Talent Engine, the citywide workforce development strategy released in 2018.

“The impact of the myPLACE℠ Campuses on residents and families, and on the economic health of the city overall, will continue to pay off for years to come,” said Sheila Ireland, Executive Director, Office of Workforce Development. “The inception of myPLACE℠ five years ago expanded our collective capacity to support education pathways for thousands of Philadelphians, and in this next year, we look forward to thousands more developing the skills they need for meaningful work.”

In the myPLACE℠ education system, campuses are required to:

“myPLACE℠ reflects our ongoing work to address the challenges facing Philadelphians as they look to start in jobs that pay family-sustaining wages, as well as engage in their communities through all aspects of civic life,” said Naomie Nyanungo, Senior Director, OAE. “As we continue to convene and champion the alignment of the city’s adult education providers with the needs of residents, I am proud of our impact thus far and eager to maximize our partnerships going forward.”

In addition to the five campuses, the myPLACE℠ system includes 40 adult education partners and 25 learner enrollment sites. myPLACE℠ also offers classes in 10 of Philadelphia’s Community Schools.
