Our volunteers are at the heart of our work. In Philadelphia, volunteer adult education tutors serve multitudes of adult students every year providing, mentorship, support and academic guidance. The first step to becoming an Adult Education Tutor is to attend one of the FREE tutor trainings offered by the Office of Adult Education. The training is open to everyone – no teaching experience required! After completion, trained tutors are placed at adult education programs throughout Philadelphia. 3-week online course
The Tutor Now: Fundamentals of Adult Learning training provides tutors with basic skills and strategies for tutoring adult learners. It is designed to ensure that tutors are not only teaching adult basic education skills (Reading, Writing and Numeracy) but also incorporating fundamental skills needed to succeed in the 21st-century workplace such as digital literacy skills. After completion, trained tutors are placed at adult education programs throughout Philadelphia.

Online Training Course
The online training allows volunteers to complete the work online at their own pace within the three-week period. An online facilitator will provide guidance, clarification, support and evaluate the work submitted by potential volunteers.
