Our volunteers are at the heart of our work. In Philadelphia, volunteer adult education tutors serve multitudes of adult students every year providing, mentorship, support and academic guidance. They aid staff, especially adult education teachers who rely on them to help facilitate lesson plans and hone in on students who benefit from more focused support.

The first step to becoming an Adult Education Tutor is to attend one of the FREE tutor trainings offered by the Office of Adult Education. The training is open to everyone – no teaching experience required!  For volunteers who may have teaching experience from K-12 education settings, this training will draw on your existing knowledge and help you prepare to work with adult learners in Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language. After completion, trained tutors are placed at adult education programs throughout Philadelphia. Click here to learn more about our volunteer program.  >>> Learn More
