DESCRIPTION 
This session is for participants interested in expanding their knowledge around formative and summative assessment in the ABE and ESL classrooms. In addition to describing the characteristics of these assessments, participants will also come away from this interactive workshop with a plan for implementing different types of assessments in their classrooms, as well as, easy to adapt models of assessments.  Throughout the workshop participants will be engaged in a series of activities and interactive discussions around questions such as: what are best practices related to assessments, how do I plan and follow up on assessments in my classroom, and how do I use information from summative assessments to establish benchmarks for instruction?

Maribel Ojeda
Professional Development Consultant, Professional Learning Opportunities Project 

Maribel Ojeda currently works as a Professional Development Consultant for the Professional Learning Opportunities Project with the Professional Development System in PA. Maribel completed her teacher certification at Drexel University and taught in Philadelphia public schools before moving into the field of adult basic education, 8 years ago. Maribel Ojeda is from New York City and has lived in Philadelphia for about 13 years.

Hanna Schlosser
Professional Development Consultant, Professional Learning Opportunities Project 

Hanna Schlosser currently works as a professional development consultant for the Professional Learning Opportunities Project with the Professional Development System in Pennsylvania.  She has her Master’s degree in TESOL from the University of Pennsylvania.  Hanna’s passion is in teaching ESL, and she has taught ESL in a variety of educational settings, including both community-based and academic settings.  Additionally, Hanna has designed and conducted many professional development sessions for ESL instructors and tutors around a variety of topics.
