Adult Literacy Mentor Trainer Position

Position Description:

The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy is hiring experienced facilitators for the exciting, innovative course on volunteer mentoring.  The online curriculum is completely developed.  Facilitators support cohorts of  learners during two week, asynchronous, online, interactive courses.  Facilitators assist learners in their interactions with each other, with the curriculum, in staying on track and on time, and guiding those who will need extra help to understand and complete their assigned work.  Successful facilitators will have a track record of building confidence in learning in a completely online medium, guiding learners, being accessible and responsive, and coaching.

Candidates must have experience with online courses, face to face trainings and blended training; must have a bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred; and be familiar with developmental education, preferably for adults. Classes are offered year-round. Successful candidates will be trained on the platform used by The Commission, and should detail in their cover letter their experiences with online learning management systems.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

The trainer receives general direction and supervision from the Commission’s Volunteer Manager and the Senior Director.
