The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy is proud to be selected for Digital Promise’s Beacon Project. Digital Promise is a nonprofit that aims to improve the opportunity to learn for all Americans through technology and research. The adult education initiative at Digital Promise highlights best practices in incorporating technology in teaching underserved and under-skilled adults.
The Beacon Project will shine a light on communities and organizations working to raise adult skills through the use of digital learning tools. The goal of the Beacon Project is to generate more interest in understanding the needs of adult learners, and to show developers and funders that there is a sizeable market for technology geared towards adults.
The Commission is one of seven innovative adult literacy organizations nationally to be selected in the year-long initiative managed by Gabe Martinez Cabrera and funded by the Joyce Foundation. In November, Mr. Martinez Cabrera visited Philadelphia for a tour of The Commission’s three myPLACE Campuses as well as several KEYSPOTs managed by The Commission.
